Jail Population Review Teams

Over the past three decades, the number of people entering local jails has nearly doubled leaving county leaders looking for strategies to reduce jail populations. The use of jail population review teams is one strategy many counties are using to reduce jail populations, address racial and ethnic disparities and lower jail costs. This brief highlights strategies for implementing an effective jail population review team and examples of counties that have used their teams to reduce jail populations and inform fair and effective policy and practice decisions.
