About the Program
Category: County Resiliency (Best in Category)
Year: 2021
In the summer of 2020, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners (BOC) established the Clean, Drain, Dry, Dispose Pilot Program (CD3) Pilot Program to educate, raise public awareness, change behaviors and build community capacity to stop the spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS) across Oakland County waters. The CD3 pilot program uses mobile boat cleaning stations to empower Oakland County water enthusiasts to do their part in protecting local waterways. These stations help users clean, drain and dry their watercraft, plus dispose of any living organisms (plant or animal) that may be clinging to the crafts. Through the use of the stations, users get a first-hand education in the dangers of AIS and how to keep the environment healthy. With support from Oakland County Parks and Recreation (OCPR), the pilot program ran for the final weeks of the 2020 boating season, and it will relaunch for the 2021 season around Memorial Day.
