Arrowhead Regional Medical Center’s (ARMC) Behavioral Health department established the Behavioral Escalation Response Team (BERT) to reduce the number of Code Greys, better de-escalate patients, and improve patient mental health. Since its implementation, the BERT program has seen a 27% decrease in the number of Code Greys, a 44% decrease in staff injuries, and an 11% decrease in the total number of patient restraints. Overall, ARMC was able to create a safer and more therapeutic environment where staff and patients can feel safe.
