In November 2019, Julie A. Ufner became the President and CEO of the National Waterways Conference, Inc (NWC). As President, Ms. Ufner serves as the chief executive officer of the corporation and has the authority to manage its affairs and direct its activities.
Ufner testified on behalf of NWC before the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works in June 2021 on “The Role of Natural and Nature-Based Features in Water Resource Projects” and before the Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment in the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure on “Concepts for the Next Water Resources Development Act: Promoting Resiliency of Our Nation’s Water Resources Infrastructure” in November 2019.
Prior to coming to NWC, from 2002—2019, Ms. Ufner served as Associate Legislative Director for Environment, Energy and Land Use at the National Association of Counties (NACo), the only national association representing America’s 3,069 county governments. In January 2018, Ms. Ufner testified on NACo’s behalf before the U.S. Senate’s Environment and Public Works Committee to discuss the role counties play in strengthening America’s water infrastructure and the importance of the Water Resources Development Act to local governments.
She joined NACo in June of 2002 from the office of former Representative Phil English (Pa.), where she had four years of legislative experience working on a number of issues, including environmental policy, human resources, energy, banking and international affairs.
