About
Elected in 2022, Adrian Fontes is Arizona's 21st Secretary of State. Secretary Fontes is a proud Arizona native, an honorable veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and the father of three daughters, who has spent a lifetime fighting for justice and defending our Democracy.
After graduating from law school, Secretary Fontes worked in the Denver District Attorney’s Office, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office and led the Arizona Attorney General’s International Prosecution Unit. He practiced law for 15 years before successfully running for office in 2016 as Maricopa County Recorder.
During his time as Recorder, Secretary Fontes utilized enhanced ballot tracking technology and increased process transparency. In 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and amidst violent protests, he administered elections with record voter turnout, as well as record numbers of new voters registered for both parties.
As Chief Elections Officer for Arizona, he is committed to the oversight of safe, secure, and accurate elections. In his role as the head of the State Library, Archives and Public Records, Secretary Fontes helps tell Arizona’s story and preserve its past. The Secretary of State is also an integral partner with the business community. The office is tasked with recording the partnerships of who those who do business in Arizona and we register trade names, trademarks and issue certificates of registration.
