About Luis Acuña
Luis Acuña joined the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) in August 2022 as the Southwest Regional Director with in NTIA's Office of Internet Connectivity and Growth. In this role, Luis leads a team of federal program officers that support 7 states (New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Missouri) in the Southwest region in implementing the Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) and Digital Equity Programs to support closing the digital divide across the region. Luis guides numerous outreach and collaboration efforts in the region to engage stakeholders and state broadband offices to maximize the historic broadband infrastructure investments from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
Prior to joining NTIA, Luis worked at the nonprofit and nonpartisan think tank Texas 2036 as a Senior Policy Advisor. At Texas 2036, Luis developed policy recommendations that ensured Texas was organized for success to close the digital divide and guided the organization’s fiscal and tax policy. He also helped establish and co-lead the Digital Texas Coalition, which brought together more than 40 community-based organizations working in diverse sectors of the Texas economy to advance digital equity. Luis also previously served as an analyst with the Texas Legislative Budget Board, a veterans advocate with the Texas Veterans Commission, and a Legislative Staffer in Texas House of Representatives. Luis also works in the restaurant industry catering events on the weekends for a Latina-led restaurant in Austin, Texas.
Luis graduated from St. Edward’s University and received his Master of Public Administration degree from Texas State University.
