About Hon. Tammy Baney
In 2007, voters elected Commissioner Baney, who had spent many years in the hospitality and real estate industries, to the Deschutes County Commission. During her time in office, Commissioner Baney has emerged as a leading voice on healthcare reform and early childhood learning, has been elected by her peers as president of the Association of Oregon Counties and has been recognized by the Oregon Business Association as an Oregon Statesman of the Year.
Commissioner Baney currently serves as the chair of the Oregon Transportation Commission, which oversees the Department of Transportation in Oregon and establishes state transportation policy for Oregon’s cities and counties. She was appointed to the Commission by former Gov. John Kitzhaber in 2015. She also serves as a member of the Oregon Housing Stability Council, which directs the state’s affordable-housing agency. She was appointed to the Council by former Gov. Ted Kulongoski in 2010.
Commissioner Baney has put her passion for healthy people and families into practice by leading the Central Oregon Health Council, which governs the region’s Coordinated Care Organization and works to improve the health of residents across Crook, Deschutes and Jefferson counties. During her time in office, she has worked closely with state and local agencies to modernize Oregon’s public health system. Commissioner Baney is currently a part of a state taskforce that is analyzing the potential modernization of Oregon’s behavioral health system. She also serves as the only county representative on the state’s School Immunization Law Advisory Committee.
A tireless advocate for Deschutes County residents, Commissioner Baney serves as chair of the Deschutes County Local Public Safety Coordinating Council and is a member of the KIDS Center Advisory Board. She is a founding member of the Family Access Network Foundation and also serves on the Central Oregon Visitors Association Board.
Commissioner Baney lives in Bend, where she was raised. Although she is proud of her professional accomplishments, she is most proud of her daughter Addy and her grown foster daughters, Lindsi, Ashley, and Alesha. When she’s not in the office, you can find her enjoying all that Central Oregon has to offer.
