About Hon. Shannon Jones
Shannon Jones is a dedicated public servant and leader with a strong track record of service. She was elected to the Warren County Commission in 2016 after a decade of serving in the Ohio General Assembly. Currently serving as President of the Board of County Commissioners, Shannon is known for her advocacy for children and families, working to enhance the quality of life for Warren County residents.
Throughout her career, Shannon has been committed to fiscal responsibility and evidence-based policymaking, utilizing data to evaluate and implement efficient county services. Her experience in the Ohio General Assembly includes serving as both a State Representative and a State Senator. She achieved milestones by becoming the only woman in her party to be elected to the majority leadership teams in both chambers, a first in Ohio's history. She held influential positions, including chairing key committees such as the Senate Public Utilities Committee and the Senate Medicaid, Health & Human Services Committee.
Shannon's leadership extends beyond Warren County. She contributes to shaping state policies through her appointment to the Board of the County Commissioner's Association of Ohio (CCAO) and serves as Chair of the Human Services and Education Policy Steering Committee for the National Association of Counties (NACo). Locally, she serves on various boards and commissions, including the Regional Planning Commission and the Data Processing & Records Retention and Microfilm Boards.
In addition to her public service, Shannon leads Groundwork Ohio, a statewide nonprofit focused on early care and education policy development and advocacy. As President & Chief Executive Officer, she emphasizes the importance of strategic investments in the well-being of Ohio's youngest children for long-term economic success.
Shannon holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Cincinnati and has been recognized with numerous awards for her influential work, including the Venue Magazine Woman of Influence Award and the YWCA Woman of Influence Award. She is actively involved in community organizations such as the Warren County Foundation, United Way of Warren County, and the Dolly Parton Imagination Library of Ohio.
