About Herb Tyson

Herb Tyson joined the Biden administration in March of 2022 and serves as director of intergovernmental affairs at the National Telecommunications and Information Agency (NTIA), which is part of the U.S. Department of Commerce. NTIA is the administration’s lead on the president’s push to provide everyone with access to high-speed internet access. NTIA is coordinating over $46 billion in high-speed internet federal funding going to states and territories for unserved and underserved communities. Prior to joining the administration, Herb worked with several top tiered DC lobbying firms and was vice president of state and local public policy for the International Council of Shopping Centers with the North American portfolio. He also served as the director of intergovernmental affairs at the U.S. Department of State in the Clinton administration. Other professional experiences included commercial banking and finance and he holds a B.A. in economics from the University of Massachusetts/Amherst and a M.A. in public policy from Tufts University.
