About Charles Washington
Charles Washington, Jr. is vice president of governmental and external affairs for BGE. He is responsible for shaping, leading, and directing the company's positions on legislation affecting BGE's customers. His organization, which includes state affairs, external affairs, community engagement, and economic development, primarily supports and builds strategic relationships with legislators, local officials, and communities. Washington reports to the BGE senior vice president governmental, regulatory, and external affairs. Washington first started with Exelon in 2006. He was most recently director of governmental & external affairs for BGE, where he was responsible for the company's relationship with key state, county, municipal, and economic development stakeholders. Prior to joining BGE, he served in a similar role for Pepco and Delmarva Power in Maryland. Previously, Washington led the government affairs function for Total Wine & More, the nation's largest independent alcohol retailer. He was responsible for managing the legislative, regulatory, political, and coalition initiatives across Total Wine & More's 24-state footprint. Washington began his public affairs career with Duke Energy in Charlotte, North Carolina.
