Run for cover, the Zombies are coming! Following two seasons of wildfire and flooding in El Paso County, the need to provide emergency preparedness education to the community became vividly apparent. In response, the El Paso County Board of Commissioners and staff held the inaugural “Be Prepared…Don’t Be a Zombie” Emergency Preparedness Event (Run) on September 28, 2013. The Run was established to present opportunities for all residents to develop family and workplace emergency preparedness plans and obtain appropriate emergency related equipment and knowledge. Located in Fox Run Park, the crown jewel of the El Paso County regional park system, the activity encompassed a lively atmosphere of vendors, music, food, (and the undead). The Run has proven to be an effective means of disseminating timely and valuable emergency preparedness tools to the residents of El Paso County in an inviting, fun, and family format. Know your risks, make your plan, and improve your outcome. Emergency Preparedness starts with you. Based on the success of the first event, a second annual run was held September 27, 2014, and El Paso County is currently preparing for the 2015 event.
