One of the goals of the Miami-Dade Public Library System is to raise awareness within the community and educate its residents by providing extraordinary programs that promote learning across the community. The Kendale Lakes Branch Library has found an effective way to re-establish a relationship with the Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department post-pandemic by providing outreach opportunities to the Hammocks Community Park. Beginning in June 2021, on Saturdays the library would supply program flyers, information on library services, story times and board games to parkgoers. This offered an outlet for children too young to participate in sports and their families by providing tabletop games to play. As a result, chess became the most popular, allowing many to play with others who normally did not have the opportunity to do so. Furthermore, our outreach initiative with the park helped create a better relationship that has led to other ways we can now offer our assistance such as hosting programs for park run summer camp programs.
