About NACo Committees & Caucuses

NACo is a grassroots-driven organization that encourages member engagement. Currently, we have more than 1,100 individual county elected and appointed officials from every region of the country represented on our 10 policy steering committees, ad hoc and standing committees, caucuses and task forces.

The association’s 10 policy steering committees cover the full array of domestic policy issues impacting county governments and our local communities. These committees meet at least twice each year to review and make recommendations on public policy issues and legislation. The policy development process initiated by the steering committees is the foundation for the American County Platform, which drives NACo's advocacy work.

Ad hoc and standing committees such as the Membership Committee, Programs and Services Committee and Information Technology Committee help shape and drive NACo’s programs and services, both internally for the association and externally for county governments and our partners.

The Rural Action Caucus and the Large Urban County Caucus also play a prominent role in advancing NACo’s policy agenda and providing an important forum for peer exchanges and thought leadership.

As needed, NACo convenes special task forces to study and address important policy questions that may have implications beyond a single policy committee's jurisdiction.
